Join Black Men United in Changing Lives

Illinois Youth Investment Program (IYIP)

This program is designed to target those youth who are interested in short-term summer employment with a goal of developing workplace skills and gaining employment experience while exploring potential Career Pathways. 


Youth Job Placements:
All youth will be placed in one or more of the following short-term, (not exceeding 13 weeks) paid work experiences requiring a minimum 180 hours of paid work.

  • Work-Based Learning
  • Career Development Experience 
  • Pre-Apprenticeship Program 

Peacekeepers:

Peacekeepers Program: 
Black Men United's program design revolves around the implementation of a comprehensive Peacekeepers program aimed at reducing gun violence and trauma in high-risk communities. The program offers a range of services and interventions to address the root causes of violence and create safer and more resilient neighborhoods. 


The program design includes the following key elements:

  • After School Programs 
  • Violence Interruption 
  • Youth Empowerment & Mentoring 
  • Community & Outreach 

The Reentry Empowerment Program:

The Reentry Empowerment Program:

 Black Men United aims to support formerly incarcerated individuals, and facilitate their successful reintegration into society. The program focuses on four key components

  • Workforce Development
  • Mentoring 
  • Health & Wellness
  • Counseling 

The program seeks to empower participants, enhance their employability, promote personal growth, and reduce recidivism rates.

Description of the Targeted Population:

  • Out of school youth
  • Youth will be recruited for the program based on meeting one or more of  the following criteria: 
  • FCRC Referral
  • Participation in the Free or Reduced Lunch Program 
  • SNAP
  • TANF
  • At-Risk 
  • Family does not exceed 185% of FPL 
  • At risk of education failure 
  • At risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system
  • Currently unemployed
